4.1 from 1 review

These Vegan Gummy Bears are a fun, easy, and healthy homemade treat made from fruit juice and agar powder. Perfect for anyone looking for a plant-based alternative to traditional gummy candies, they set firmly without gelatin and can be customized with your favorite fruit flavors and sweeteners.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup fruit juice (such as apple, grape, or mixed berry)
  • 2 tsp agar powder
  • 1 tbsp sweetener of choice (optional; maple syrup, agave, or sugar, adjust to taste)
  • Fruit powder of choice (optional; for extra flavor and color)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Molds: Begin by preparing two silicone gummy bear molds and have a dropper ready for filling your molds later. Silicone molds allow easy removal and detailed gummy shapes.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a bowl, combine 1 cup of your chosen fruit juice with 2 teaspoons of agar powder, optional 1 tablespoon of sweetener, and optional fruit powder. Whisk the mixture thoroughly to ensure the agar powder is evenly dispersed.
  3. Cook the Mixture: Pour the mixture into a pot or pan and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and continue to cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently to activate the agar and prevent clumping.
  4. Fill the Molds: Using the dropper, carefully fill the silicone molds with the hot mixture. Be cautious as the mixture will be hot.
  5. Set the Gummies: Allow the gummies to set at room temperature for at least 20 minutes; depending on the juice used, setting times may vary. Alternatively, place the molds in the refrigerator to expedite the firming process.
  6. Enjoy: Once set, carefully pop out the gummy bears and enjoy your vegan, homemade treats!

Notes

  • You can use different fruit juices such as apple, grape, or berry blends to customize flavors.
  • Agar powder must be fully dissolved and cooked to activate its gelling properties; do not skip simmering step.
  • Sweetener is optional and can be adjusted or omitted depending on the sweetness of the fruit juice used.
  • Fruit powder adds extra intensity of flavor and color but is optional.
  • If gummies are too soft, increase agar powder slightly in the next batch for firmer texture.
  • Storing gummies in the fridge helps them stay firm longer.
