Ingredients

Dip Ingredients

  • 7oz / 200g block of feta cheese
  • 5oz / 140g drained jarred roasted red peppers (or fresh roasted red bell peppers)
  • 1-2 red chili peppers (adjust to taste)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 garlic clove

Garnish (Optional)

  • Crumbled feta cheese
  • Fresh parsley
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Extra virgin olive oil drizzle

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Gather the block of feta cheese, drained roasted red peppers, olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic clove, and red chili peppers. Start with one chili pepper to control spice level.
  2. Blend the Dip: In a small food processor, combine the feta cheese, roasted red peppers, extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic clove, and 1 red chili pepper. Blend the mixture until it becomes smooth and creamy. This ensures all ingredients are well incorporated and the texture is perfect for dipping.
  3. Adjust Seasoning and Spice: Taste the blend and decide if you want to add the second chili pepper or adjust any other seasoning to increase heat or flavor complexity. Blend again if additional ingredients are added.
  4. Serve and Garnish: Transfer the creamy Tirokafteri to a serving dish. Garnish with crumbled feta cheese, fresh parsley, red pepper flakes, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil for an attractive presentation and enhanced flavor.
  5. Enjoy: Serve the Tirokafteri alongside pita chips, fresh bread, vegetable sticks, or with traditional Greek salads and tzatziki for a delicious and spicy Mediterranean appetizer experience.

Notes

  • Roasted red peppers can be homemade by roasting fresh bell peppers until charred, then peeled and drained.
  • Adjust the number of chili peppers to manage the spiciness level according to your preference.
  • For a smoother texture, blend longer or add a small splash of olive oil.
  • This dip is best served fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
  • Pair with crudités, pita bread, or grilled meats for complementary flavors.
