Ready in just 5 minutes, it can complement a wide range of dishes from salads to grilled meats and noodles.

Ingredients

Peanut Sauce Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup natural peanut butter (85g) - if thick, microwave for about 15 seconds to soften
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger, or ¼ teaspoon freshly minced ginger (0.5g)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave syrup (21g)
  • 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce (30mL)
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar (5mL)
  • ½ teaspoon sesame seeds (1.5g)
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional (0.35g)
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons hot water (30mL to 60mL), to adjust consistency

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, jar with lid, or small blender, whisk together the peanut butter, ground or minced ginger, maple syrup, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame seeds, and crushed red pepper flakes with 2 tablespoons of hot water until smooth.
  2. Adjust Consistency: Gradually add up to 2 more tablespoons of hot water, whisking continuously, until the sauce reaches your desired thickness suitable for dipping, dressing, or drizzling.
  3. Taste and Adjust: Sample the sauce and adjust sweetness or saltiness as needed by adding more maple syrup or soy sauce to your preference.
  4. Serve or Store: Use immediately as a sauce, dressing, or dip, or refrigerate in an airtight container for later use. The sauce keeps well and flavors meld beautifully over time.

Notes

  • If your peanut butter is thick, warming it briefly helps achieve a smoother sauce.
  • The crushed red pepper flakes are optional; add more or less based on preferred spice level.
  • This sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Adjust the amount of water to create a thicker dip or a pourable dressing.
  • Use low sodium soy sauce to manage salt levels.
