This Smoky BBQ Hummus is a vibrant twist on classic hummus, blending creamy chickpeas with smoky vegan BBQ sauce, sweet peach preserves, and a hint of chipotle heat. Perfect as a flavorful dip for gatherings or a unique spread for sandwiches, it’s quick to make and customizable to your taste preferences.

Ingredients

Hummus Base

  • 15 ounce can chickpeas, drained
  • 2 tablespoons tahini
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (or more, to taste)

Flavoring

  • 1/2 cup your favorite vegan BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons peach preserves (or more, to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons chipotle hot sauce (or more, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Blend Ingredients: Combine all of the ingredients in your blender or food processor, and puree until smooth. This ensures the chickpeas and flavorings become a creamy, well-mixed hummus.
  2. Taste and Refrigerate: Taste the hummus and adjust seasonings to your preference. Once satisfied, refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to serve. If taking it to a tailgate, pack the container in a cooler with ice packs to keep it fresh.
  3. Adjust Sweetness if Spicy: If the hummus tastes too spicy, add another tablespoon of peach preserves, blend again, and taste to balance the heat with sweetness.
  4. Adjust Heat if Too Sweet: If the hummus tastes too sweet, add another teaspoon of chipotle hot sauce or lime juice, blend again, and taste. This enhances the smoky and tangy elements.
  5. Fine Tune Flavor: Continue adjusting the sweet and spicy elements until you achieve the perfect smoky BBQ hummus tailored to your taste buds.
