This Microwave Apple Crisp in a Mug is a quick and easy single-serving dessert featuring cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a classic oatmeal crisp. Perfect for a cozy fall treat, it combines warm tender apples with a buttery, crunchy oat topping, all cooked conveniently in the microwave in just 3 minutes.

Ingredients

Apple Filling:

  • 1 small apple (any variety), peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour

Crisp Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons softened (not melted) butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons old fashioned oats
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple filling: In a small bowl, combine the peeled and thinly sliced apple with melted butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, and flour. Mix well to evenly coat the apple slices with the spiced mixture.
  2. Make the crisp topping: In a separate bowl, combine the softened butter (make sure it is not melted), flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Use a fork to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture becomes crumbly and resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Layer the dessert: Take a microwave-safe mug, bowl, or ramekin and place half of the apple mixture on the bottom. Sprinkle half of the crisp topping evenly over the apples. Add the remaining apples on top, followed by the rest of the crisp topping to create two layers.
  4. Microwave cook: Place the assembled mug in the microwave and cook on high for 3 minutes. Be cautious when removing, as it will be very hot.
  5. Serve: Enjoy your warm apple crisp straight from the mug. For extra indulgence, serve with whipped topping or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • To make this apple crisp in the oven, bake in an oven-safe ramekin at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon and brown sugar according to your taste preferences for more or less sweetness and spice.
  • Use any apple variety you prefer; tart apples like Granny Smith work well to balance the sweetness.
  • Allow the mug to cool slightly before eating to avoid burns from the hot filling.
