Loaded Tater Tot Nachos are a hearty and flavorful twist on traditional nachos, featuring crispy baked tater tots topped with seasoned ground beef, melted cheeses, and optional fresh toppings like pico de gallo and jalapeños. Perfect for a satisfying snack or casual meal.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 (1 oz) packet taco seasoning
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 lb frozen tater tots
  • ½ cup queso cheese
  • 1 ¼ cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Optional Toppings

  • Pico de gallo
  • Sour cream
  • Lime wedges
  • Jalapeños
  • Fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Bake Tater Tots: Spread the frozen tater tots evenly over the prepared baking sheet. Bake them for 25–30 minutes until they are golden and crispy, shaking the pan halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: While the tater tots bake, heat a large skillet on medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook it, breaking it into small pieces as it browns, for 7–10 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  4. Season the Beef: Stir the taco seasoning and 2 tablespoons of water into the cooked beef. Continue cooking for 1–2 minutes until the seasoning is well mixed and beef is flavored.
  5. Assemble Nachos: Remove the tater tots from the oven. Drizzle them with the queso cheese, then evenly spread the seasoned ground beef on top. Sprinkle the shredded Monterey Jack cheese over everything.
  6. Melt the Cheese: Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes. This will melt the cheese and heat the dish thoroughly.
  7. Add Toppings and Serve: Remove from the oven and add your choice of optional toppings such as pico de gallo, sour cream, lime wedges, jalapeños, and fresh cilantro. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Make sure to shake the baking sheet halfway through baking the tater tots to help them cook evenly and become crispy on all sides.
  • Use freshly grated Monterey Jack for better melting and flavor.
  • Drain the excess grease from the cooked beef to prevent soggy nachos.
  • Customize toppings based on preference to add heat, freshness, or creaminess.
  • If desired, substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein option.
