Cooked on the stovetop, the shrimp are perfectly tender and coated with a warm, slightly reduced sauce, garnished with fresh cilantro or parsley and green onions. It’s ideal for a fast weeknight dinner with a balance of sweetness, spice, and aromatic freshness.

Ingredients

Marinade & Sauce

  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ¼ cup tamari soy sauce (or coconut aminos)
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

For Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped cilantro or parsley
  • 1 green onion, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, stir together honey, tamari soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes until well combined.
  2. Marinate the shrimp: Place the peeled and deveined shrimp in a separate bowl. Pour about one-third of the prepared sauce over the shrimp and toss to coat evenly. Let the shrimp marinate for 15-20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Heat the oil: In a skillet or pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat until hot, ready for cooking the shrimp.
  4. Cook the shrimp: Add the marinated shrimp to the pan, discarding any leftover marinade. Cook the shrimp for 1 to 2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are just cooked through.
  5. Simmer the sauce: Pour the remaining two-thirds of the sauce into the pan with the shrimp. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring to coat the shrimp as the sauce slightly reduces and warms through, about 1 minute.
  6. Finish and garnish: Turn off the heat. Stir in the finely chopped cilantro or parsley, then top the shrimp with thinly sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Marinate shrimp for no longer than 20 minutes to keep them tender and juicy.
  • Use tamari soy sauce for a gluten-free option or substitute with coconut aminos for a soy-free alternative.
  • Adjust crushed red pepper flakes based on your preferred spice level.
  • Serve with steamed rice or over noodles for a complete meal.
  • Make sure not to overcook shrimp as they cook quickly and become rubbery if overdone.
