This super easy Ground Beef Tacos Recipe is perfect for Taco Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo, or any busy weeknight. With flavorful seasoned beef, fresh toppings, and soft tortillas, these tacos come together quickly for a delicious and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

For the Taco Meat:

  • 1/2 medium white onion, diced
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 3 tbsp homemade taco seasoning or store-bought

For the Tacos:

  • 8 medium flour or corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded taco cheese blend
  • 1 large roma tomato, diced
  • 4 tbsp sour cream
  • Hot sauce, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat: Combine the diced onion and ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook until the beef is fully browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet and return it to the heat.
  2. Simmer with Sauce and Seasoning: Add the tomato sauce and taco seasoning to the skillet. Stir well and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let the mixture simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together.
  3. Assemble the Tacos: Warm the tortillas as preferred. Serve the hot taco meat in each tortilla, then top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and hot sauce according to your taste. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • You can use either flour or corn tortillas depending on your preference or dietary needs.
  • For extra flavor, add chopped cilantro or a squeeze of lime juice on top of the tacos.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for beef for a leaner option.
  • Adjust the amount of taco seasoning to suit your taste for spice and saltiness.
  • If you want to make it gluten free, be sure to use corn tortillas labeled gluten free and confirm that the taco seasoning is gluten free.
