Ingredients

Roll Ups

  • 4 12-inch flour tortillas
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese (about 5 ounces)
  • 1/2 lb deli sliced roast beef
  • 3/4 cup French fried onions
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Dipping Sauce

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) beef consommé
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425ºF to prepare for baking the roll ups.
  2. Assemble Roll Ups: Lay the 4 tortillas flat on your work surface. Tear the provolone cheese into small pieces and evenly spread over each tortilla. Layer the deli sliced roast beef evenly on top of the cheese, then sprinkle the French fried onions over the roast beef for a crispy texture.
  3. Roll and Secure: Fold the sides of each tortilla inward, then tightly roll them up into a cylinder shape. Brush a small amount of olive oil on the edge of the tortilla to help seal the roll. Place each roll seam side down on a baking sheet.
  4. Brush with Oil: Brush the tops of the roll ups generously with the remaining olive oil to encourage browning and crispiness during baking.
  5. Bake Roll Ups: Bake the roll ups in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and heated through.
  6. Prepare Dipping Sauce: While the roll ups bake, combine beef consommé, water, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Heat until warmed through and flavors meld.
  7. Serve: Slice the roll ups in half and serve immediately with the warm dipping sauce for a delicious French dip experience in every bite.

Notes

  • For a crispier roll up, you can broil for an additional 1-2 minutes after baking, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  • Use any good-quality deli roast beef for the best flavor and texture.
  • The dipping sauce can be made ahead and reheated when ready to serve.
  • Feel free to substitute Provolone cheese with Swiss or Mozzarella if preferred.
  • To make ahead, assemble roll ups and refrigerate, then brush with olive oil and bake right before serving.
