These Crispy Air Fryer Dill Pickles are a delicious and easy-to-make snack featuring tangy dill pickle slices coated in a crunchy seasoned breadcrumb crust, perfect for a quick appetizer or party bite. Air frying makes them perfectly crispy without deep frying, offering a lighter alternative while maintaining great flavor and texture.

Ingredients

Pickles

  • 16 dill pickle slices (or dill pickle spears)

Breading

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ¼ teaspoon hot sauce (such as Tabasco)
  • 1 ½ cups Panko bread crumbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried dill

Other

  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and let it preheat while you prepare the pickles.
  2. Prepare the pickles: Drain the dill pickle slices well and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps the breading stick better.
  3. Set up breading stations: Place the all-purpose flour in a small bowl. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs, water, and hot sauce until well combined. In a third bowl, mix the Panko bread crumbs with garlic powder and dried dill.
  4. Coat the pickles: Dredge each pickle slice first in the flour, making sure it is fully coated. Then dip it in the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off. Finally, press the pickle into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it is fully covered with the crumb coating.
  5. Air fry the pickles: Lightly spray the breaded pickles with cooking spray to encourage browning and crispiness. Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overlapping. Cook for 5 minutes, then carefully flip each pickle slice and continue cooking for another 4 to 6 minutes until the pickles are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Cool and serve: Let the crispy pickles cool for about 2 minutes before serving to allow the coating to set. Enjoy them as a tasty snack or appetizer!

Notes

  • Make sure the pickle slices are very dry before breading to prevent soggy coating.
  • You can use dill pickle spears cut into smaller pieces as an alternative to slices.
  • Adjust cooking time depending on the thickness of pickles and your air fryer model.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or cayenne to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Serve with ranch or spicy dipping sauce for best experience.
