This homemade version of McDonald's chicken nuggets offers a crispy exterior and tender interior, crafted with simple ingredients. Easy to make and much healthier and tastier than store-bought fast-food nuggets, they feature flavorful seasoning and a light, crunchy batter perfect for frying.

Ingredients

Chicken Mixture

  • 11 oz chicken breasts
  • 1/2 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Batter & Coating

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup sparkling water

Frying

  • 4 cups frying oil (such as sunflower oil)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chicken Mixture: Chop the chicken breasts into a purée using a knife or blender for speed. Place the puréed chicken into a bowl and add half of the paprika, half of the garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the seasoning.
  2. Shape Nuggets & Freeze: Using your hands, form the chicken mixture into small nugget shapes. Place the shaped nuggets onto a plate and freeze them for 15 minutes. This chilling step helps the nuggets hold their shape during frying.
  3. Heat Oil & Prepare Coating: Heat the frying oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 355°F (180°C). In a separate bowl, combine the flour, remaining paprika, remaining garlic powder, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Stir the dry mix well.
  4. Dredge Nuggets in Dry Mix: Take the frozen chicken nuggets and dredge them through the seasoned flour mixture to coat them evenly.
  5. Make Batter & Coat Nuggets: Add sparkling water gradually to the bowl with the flour mixture to create a smooth, pancake-like batter. Dip the flour-coated nuggets into this batter, ensuring they are fully covered.
  6. Fry Nuggets: Carefully place the battered nuggets into the preheated oil. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain oil temperature.
  7. Drain & Serve: Remove the cooked nuggets from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade crispy chicken nuggets!

Notes

  • Freezing the nuggets before frying helps them maintain their shape and results in crispier texture.
  • Use sparkling water in the batter for extra lightness and crunch.
  • Maintain the oil temperature at 355°F (180°C) for even cooking and crispy coating.
  • Adjust seasoning according to your taste; more paprika adds smoky flavor.
  • Ensure not to overcrowd the pan to keep oil temperature steady and nuggets crispy.
