Ingredients

Turkey Burger Mixture

  • 1 ½ lbs ground turkey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Creole Cajun Seasoning (homemade or store-bought)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt & fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ⅓ cup plain panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • ¾ cup blue cheese crumbles

For Cooking & Assembly

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil (or olive oil), for cooking
  • 6 brioche burger buns (or buns of choice)
  • Butter, for toasting buns
  • Caramelized onion jam, store-bought
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, egg, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper, Dijon mustard, panko breadcrumbs, soy sauce, parsley, and blue cheese crumbles. Use your hands to gently mix until just combined. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Form Patties: Coat your hands lightly with olive oil and divide the mixture evenly into 6 portions. Shape each portion into a burger patty carefully without overworking the meat. Place the patties on a foil or parchment-lined baking sheet and set aside.
  3. Preheat Skillet: Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium to medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes until hot. Add avocado or olive oil to coat the pan.
  4. Cook Patties: Working in batches, place the patties gently into the hot skillet. Cook each side for 2-3 minutes until a nice browned crust forms. Transfer the cooked patties to a clean plate and allow them to rest a few minutes before assembling your burgers.
  5. Toast Buns: Spread butter on both sides of the brioche buns. Place them in the skillet and toast for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  6. Assemble Burgers: Spread caramelized onion jam on the toasted buns. Add the turkey patty, then top with fresh lettuce and sliced tomatoes. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful blue cheese turkey burgers!

Notes

  • Allowing the burger mixture to rest before cooking helps the flavors develop and improves texture.
  • Use disposable gloves when mixing if preferred to keep hands clean.
  • Don’t overwork the turkey mixture to keep burgers tender and juicy.
  • Avocado oil is preferred for its high smoke point but olive oil works fine.
  • Feel free to substitute brioche buns with whole wheat or gluten-free buns as desired.
  • Caramelized onion jam adds sweetness and depth—store-bought is a convenient option, or make your own.
  • Blue cheese can be adjusted based on your preference for stronger or milder flavor.
