Ingredients

Feta Cheese and Seasoning

  • 14 to 16 ounces block feta cheese
  • 3 Tbsp avocado oil
  • ½ tsp dried oregano (or dried parsley)
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • ½ tsp fresh thyme (optional)

Topping

  • ½ cup fig preserves
  • ½ cup raw pecans, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the feta dip.
  2. Toast Pecans: Place the chopped pecans in a small skillet over medium heat on the stovetop, stirring occasionally for 1 to 3 minutes until they become toasted and crunchy. Immediately transfer the toasted pecans to a bowl and mix in the fig preserves to create the topping mixture.
  3. Prepare Feta: Remove the feta blocks from packaging and place them in a small oven-safe dish, such as a small casserole dish. Drizzle the feta with avocado oil, then sprinkle dried oregano and black pepper evenly over the top for seasoning.
  4. Bake Feta: Bake the feta in the preheated oven at 400°F for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese turns golden brown. Remove from the oven, reduce the temperature to 350°F, and stir the feta to a creamy consistency.
  5. Add Topping and Bake Again: Pour the fig and pecan mixture over the creamy feta and bake again at 350°F for 12 to 17 minutes until the topping is hot and the cheese is bubbly.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven carefully using a trivet or towel. Sprinkle fresh thyme over the hot dip for a fragrant finish. Serve warm with toasted baguette, pita bread, or crackers for dipping.

Notes

  • Use a small casserole dish or any oven-safe dish for baking the feta.
  • To toast pecans evenly, stir frequently and watch carefully to prevent burning.
  • Fresh thyme is optional but adds a lovely herbal aroma and flavor.
  • Serve immediately while warm for the best taste and texture.
  • Fig preserves can be substituted with other fruit preserves like apricot or raspberry if desired.
