Ingredients
Apples
4 small/medium apples (Gala recommended)
Seasoning and Flavoring
1½ tsp cinnamon, separated
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
2 T sugar
Oils and Butter
1 T canola oil (vegetable oil also works)
2 T butter, melted
Instructions
Prepare Apples: Remove the cores of the apples and slice them into 1/2 inch thick slices. You can choose to peel the apples or leave the skin on based on your preference. Toss the apple slices with canola oil, vanilla bean paste, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon to evenly coat them.
Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C). This ensures the apples cook evenly and achieve a tender texture.
Air Fry Apples: Place the apple slices in the air fryer basket. Although oil spritzing is optional, you can lightly spray the basket to prevent sticking. Arrange the apples evenly in a single layer, avoiding too much overlapping. Air fry the apples for 10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking to promote even tenderness.
Toss with Butter and Seasoning: Once the apples are soft and tender, transfer them to a bowl. Add melted butter, the remaining teaspoon of cinnamon, and sugar. Toss everything together thoroughly to coat the apples in the buttery, sweet cinnamon mixture.
Serve and Store: Serve the apples immediately for the best flavor. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze them for up to 2 months.
Notes
You may keep the apple peels on for added texture and nutrients or peel them if preferred.
Using vanilla bean paste adds a rich flavor; vanilla extract can be a suitable substitute.
The apples should be arranged as evenly as possible in the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
Leftover apples can be frozen, making them convenient for later use in desserts or as snacks.
Different apple varieties such as Honeycrisp or Fuji can be used, but Gala apples provide a balanced sweetness and texture.
