Deliciously soft and tender air fryer apples seasoned with cinnamon, vanilla, butter, and sugar. This quick and easy recipe uses the air fryer for a healthy and flavorful dessert or snack that can be enjoyed immediately or stored for later.

Ingredients

Apples

  • 4 small/medium apples (we use Gala)

Seasonings and Flavorings

  • 1½ tsp cinnamon, separated
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 T butter, melted
  • 2 T sugar

Oil

  • 1 T canola oil (vegetable oil can also be used)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Remove the cores from the apples and slice them into ½-inch thick slices. You can choose to peel the apples or leave the skin on according to your preference. Toss the sliced apples in canola oil, vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon until evenly coated.
  2. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C). Lightly spritz the air fryer basket with oil if desired, though it’s not necessary.
  3. Air Fry the Apples: Arrange the coated apple slices evenly in the air fryer basket, trying to avoid overlapping them as much as possible to ensure even cooking. Air fry for 10 minutes or until the apples are soft and tender. Shake or toss the apples halfway through the cooking time to shift them around for even cooking.
  4. Toss with Butter, Cinnamon, and Sugar: Once the apples are cooked, transfer them to a bowl. Toss the warm apple slices with the melted butter, the remaining 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and sugar until everything is well combined.
  5. Serve and Store: Serve the warm air fryer apples immediately for the best flavor. Leftover apples can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 2 months.

Notes

  • You can leave the apple skin on or peel it according to your preference.
  • For best results, use a variety of apples that holds shape well when cooked, such as Gala.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled for larger batches but cook in batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket.
  • Storing apples in an airtight container in the fridge keeps them fresh for up to 5 days.
  • Freezing cooked apples works well for longer storage up to 2 months; thaw before serving.
